Fauna & Flora

Dullstroom, with its diverse climate conditions offers year-round attractions - comfort, convenience and elegance.

The winter season is a cold and enjoyable time with easy game-viewing and bird-watching opportunities, and ideal weather for fire lit cherry nights, while summer features thick mist in the mornings and evenings.

Scenic mountain trails with spectacular views can be enjoyed on foot on horseback and a family picnic in the veld is ideal for becoming a part of the wildlife scenery.

Disa baurii

Conservation Status
Recorded from numerous and fairly widespread localities, but nowhere common. Individuals are sporadic and widely scattered and it, therefore, requires large tracts of undisturbed grassland for sustainability. A charming species worthy of all conservation efforts (Grobler, burns and McMurtry).

Brunsvigia Ardulosa

(This species is also found in a red variety namely the Brunsvigia natelensis)  a deciduous bulbous species which is listed as a protected species. It takes twelve years for the seed to grow into the flower form, and when flowered the stem detaches from the leaves to give the"rolling cowboy wheel" seen in films commonly called the "tumble weed'.
It flowers between January and February, so look out for it on the farm ( I have spotted it on stand 38 and 39, phase 2 ).If wanted, I can get it ordered and planted around the houses.
